Well today is the 25th Anniversary of the great mans murder. Can't believe it. I remember getting ready to go to school and it coming on the radio that he'd been killed. I wasn't all that aware of John then to be honest. I only knew he was a Beatle and that he meant a lot to a lot of people. I don't know if I would have become a songwriter if I hadn't started listening to John and Paul's songs. They really changed my life. I remember the first time I listened to the Abbey Road album it totally blew me away. I was hooked. Got every Beatles record and then all of John's solo albums. Nicked loads of ideas from him!! Not many songwriters have ever moved me in the same way as John. He was such an honest writer. really wore his heart on his sleeve. Not scared at all to show his true feelings in his music. I hope some of that has rubbed off on me and my way of writing.
If he was still around today I'm sure he'd still be out there on the frontlines protesting and giving it to Bush and Blair big style. Taking no shit!
I'm so grateful for having John's music in my life. He's always there over my shoulder when I'm writing.Wherever you are today and whatever you're doing take a moment or two to think of him. We have a lot to thank him for.
Cheers John for all the great music. RIP
Dean.
